Over 10,000 gamers suggest wishlist on the ultimate gaming tablet, said gaming peripheral company
Gaming company Razer capped what it called the world's first
crowdsourced gaming tablet today - with a contest to reward three gamers
with the portable gaming device dubbed the Project Fiona Concept
Tablet.
Co-Founder and CEO Tan Min-Liang posted on his Facebook page: "You spoke
and we listened. We've compiled all of the feedback we've received from
the crowdsourced questions and we've got the final specs for Project
Fiona that YOU, the community, have chosen. Over the past 2 months,
we've collated feedback from over 10,000 gamers and the final specs for
Project Fiona as voted by the community will be as follows: a) CPU:
Intel Core i5 or i7, b) GPU: Mid Tier Discrete GPU (Hardcore PC gaming
on the go at Medium Settings), c) Thickness/Weight: Up to double the
thickness/weight of an iPad, d) Other features: Detachable/Removable
Controllers, e) Price: US$1,299 - US$1,499" (S$1586 to S$1831).
According to the Razer website, the Project Fiona Concept Tablet runs a PC environment on a next generation Intel processor ready to play all your favourite PC games. It has the ultra portable form factor of a tablet, so hardcore PC gamers can play on-the-go. The device also features full force feedback in each of its integrated dual gaming controllers that - coupled with its multi-touch screen - offers ergonomic comfort while providing complex game navigation without compromising on the tablet's portability. "You'll be able to carry out headshots and command troops in-game with ease," said Razer. The controllers feature joysticks and action buttons at your fingertips for a more intuitive gameplay.
Planned tech specs for the Project Fiona tablet includes a 10.1-inch screen with Dolby 7.1 surround sound, running on an Intel Core i7 processor. Even though Razer said its tablet is not for casual games "about unhappy birds or zombie-killing flora", it does offer the 3-axis gyro, magnetometer, accelerometer that casual games sometimes utilise. It will also come with wifi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Mr Tan added on his post the criteria to win the coveted tablets: "1. You've participated in the development of Project Fiona and believe the specs above make up the ultimate PC gaming tablet; 2. You'll tell as many people around you that you're a PC gamer and that Project Fiona is INCOMING because YOU helped crowdsource its development; and 3. Like AND Share this post."
Entries close on Dec 31 and is open to gamers from around the world. Mr Tan said three Project Fiona game sets will be given away randomly "when we finally ship Project Fiona" for those who will be signing off on the final specs.
Mr Tan also added: "If you're one of those who don't believe in Project Fiona, please don't participate in this but give a chance to those who really want to make this happen a chance to win."
